ISV Volunteer Opportunities Abroad for UNR Engineering Students this Summer!

Uncategorized No Comments »

Greetings College of Engineering  Students!

My name is David Ramos with International Student Volunteers (ISV) which is a non-profit that organizes life-changing volunteer abroad programs for university students. This summer, we have 4-week programs in 6 countries–Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, and Thailand. I was hoping you could forward the following message to your students!

During the first two weeks, our students do 80 hours of volunteer work in either Social Community Development–doing basic health care and pre-med projects, building schools and houses, and working on educational programs for children– or in Conservation–where they can work in rainforest regeneration or endangered species management with elephants, dolphins, cheetahs or sea turtles!

During the second two weeks, students will travel all throughout their host country, getting immersed into the culture and exploring its natural wonders. They will also get to do exciting adventure activities like white water rafting, zip lining, surfing, cave kayaking, going on wildlife safaris and WAY more!

This program is a wonderful way to get out of the classroom and have some hands-on educational experiences—throughout the 4 weeks, students will be learning all about the communities, ecosystems, and animals with which they are interacting! Furthermore, it gives students an opportunity to do something meaningful with their summer while exploring another culture and country.

We will be having information meetings about these programs this THURSDAY, October 1st, from 9am-5pm in the Joe, Room 422, starting every hour on the hour. If students can’t attend the information meeting, they can email me to get more information.

Engineering Challenges w/ Nevada STEMducation & Geothermal Engineering & Associates – Internship Opportunity! Saturday, 10/3

Uncategorized No Comments »

Engineering students,

Are you looking for active engineering experience, an opportunity to get into the fields of Geothermal Engineering, or just something to do this Saturday before the UNLV Game? We’ve got something fun for you!

Nevada STEMducation, a STEM outreach club has space open this Saturday 10/3/15 from 8AM to Noon for all students on campus to participate in “Engineering Challenges” where students will design and build a car that runs off steam with Geothermal Engineering & Associates. We will provide the steam elements and students just need up to 10 friends, $10.00 to cover costs, and materials of all kinds from home that will help them build their small vehicle. The vehicles must run off steam and no other potential energy to gather points. The winner will receive a prize that is being decided but well worth your while (valued at $50-$100).

Also, if you are interested in an internship with Geothermal Engineering & Associates, they are looking to fill a position next fall and are taking resumes this Saturday from participants in the competition only. We are working to get interested students opportunity for a 1-on-1 informal meeting.

This is an amazing opportunity for students!
