NSF – Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program

In the Center for Emergent Materials: an NSF Materials Research Science and Engineering Center

At The Ohio State University

Application deadline: February 15, 2017


The NSF-funded CEM REU program involves a wide range of research projects where students will learn to address scientific issues including:

  • Integrating materials synthesis and growth, characterization, novel probe development and theory
  • Modeling in order to enhance computation technology
  • Improving energy efficiency through discovery of new materials, novel phases of matter and innovative spin science.


Program Includes:

10-week research experience providing insight into life as a graduate student

Professional development activities focusing on preparing for graduate school and research related careers.

Peer networking and social activities


Participants receive:

$5,000 Stipend

Reasonable domestic travel costs to and from your home institution location

Housing (2 people per room)

A bus pass for transportation

Access to the OSU library


Application Deadline and Program dates:

Application Deadline is February 15, 2017

Program Dates: May 21-July 29, 2017

Eligibility Requirements:

US citizen or permanent resident enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in science or engineering. Members of groups under-represented in engineering or physical sciences are especially encouraged to apply.

A NEW Entrepreneurial Research Experience for Undergraduates that will happen the Summer of 2017!  The aim of this E-REU is to provide students with a truly integrated research and entrepreneurship training experience, giving them both depth in fundamental engineering research, as well as breadth in entrepreneurial skills.  For more information:[]
