Engineering Manager

JOB SUMMARY

The Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading our engineering team, overseeing mechanical and electrical design of new cutting tables, and maintaining existing products.  The candidate will lead technical projects with the ability to motivate engineers to meet objectives, communicate and collaborate with other engineering groups, and management across the broader company.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Manage the engineering team – coordinating mechanical and electrical engineering activities to deliver against project plans
  • Directly manage designers and drafters including: training, mentoring, development, performance evaluation and staffing
  • Guide engineering team to deliver products while achieving design intent, functionality, budget, and time constraints of the project
  • Plan and assign resources to prioritize tasks in a dynamic and deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to write product requirement definitions translating commercial requirements to technical requirements for execution team
  • Develop and execute new products against roadmap following a stage gate process
  • High level of participation within the execution team designing products
  • Plan and establish project schedule and milestones to meet company objectives
  • Evaluate and establish policies, processes, and best practices to provide a safe, effective development environment
  • Enable efficient design, validation and introduction of new and upgraded products
  • Ability to work in a matrix reporting structure with the business unit management and cross-functional teams
  • Prepare and present status reports to organizational leadership
  • Reports directly to the engineering director

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience leading technical personnel and projects in a design/manufacturing environment
  • Vast experience designing professionally with Solid Edge, Solid Works, ProE or another equivalent 3D CAD tool. Ability to simulate design is beneficial
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong mechanical aptitude to design products with dynamic characteristics. Robust understanding of vibration analysis and ability to apply FEA (finite element analysis). Background in materials is advantageous
  • Aptitude to consume information quickly through design reviews to qualify solution, method and accuracy against requirements
  • Good understanding of machinery directive and working knowledge of UL, CSA, CCC, CE is advantageous
  • Ability to perform hazard and risk assessment during the life cycle of the product
  • High level of professionalism and integrity
  • Uncompromising attitude toward safety, customer service, and quality
    • Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills including ability to communicate with employees at all levels within the company
    • Project Management experience
    • Ability to travel both internationally and domestically

 PREFERENCES

  • Experience in a capital equipment manufacturing environment
  • Background in automation with motor control
  • Experience and/or knowledge of plasma cutting process
  • Ability to use project management tools such as MS Project or Clarity

 Buff Guy Media are offering a $1500 scholarship to one student per year for students of all majors.

Eligibility and application details are outlined below:

– Must be attending or will attend as a full-time student
